Sarah Khoury

Sarah is a Civil Engineer who has always had an interest in the process of design, engineering and construction of infrastructure. This interest was fostered by her family who were involved in the building industry.

The NSW Public Works Graduate Program appealed to Sarah because of the diversity of businesses and the opportunities for job rotation that it offers. She saw that she would be able to gain experience in the different fields covered by her studies in a flexible and supportive environment. Sarah says that “the impressive starting salary was also a bonus.”

Since joining the Graduate Program Sarah has had the opportunity to work in two different units. During her first six months she was based in Baulkham Hills working on Department of Education and Training projects. This experience taught Sarah some of the issues specific to Education and enhanced her understanding of the construction process including OH&S and dealing with a variety of people.

Sarah is currently based in the Sydney CBD with the Strategic Support and Business Performance group working on major contamination and remediation projects. A typical day could be spent working in the office writing reports or making site visits to attend client meetings anywhere in NSW. She enjoys the opportunity to travel frequently.

Impressed by the range and depth of NSW Public Works, Sarah says one of the highlights for her is meeting so many people. She says “the networking is unbelievable, and I’m quite thankful to be able to experience a variety of aspects in the one position description.”
