NSW Public Works comprises a wide variety of specialist capabilities that include engineering and architectural design specialists, project managers and experts in facilities management. The Strategic Support & Business Performance (SS&BP) group supports this broad capability to provide effective and efficient service lines to clients.

SS&BP ensures that the various specialist components of NSW Public Works operate efficiently and work together effectively to deliver the maximum value to our clients. Support is provided to other business groups in NSW Public Works in the form of specialist advice in the areas of procurement and contract management, occupational health & safety and industrial relations management, risk management and a range of environmental services including planning, remediation and sustainability advice.

SS&BP is the engine room for the continuous improvement process in NSW Public Works. We ensure our systems enable us deliver services that match industry and global best practice. We manage improvement initiatives in our services and identify and develop new products that help us better meet our clients’ needs. We facilitate communication between our clients and service groups and are responsible for sharing of our achievements across the organisation.

SS&BP also works at improving the range and availability of skills in NSW Public Works ensuring that a client in any part of NSW can access the same high calibre performance. We plan for professional development of our staff, and work towards ensuring that NSW Public Works is always able to meet our clients needs.

We coordinate NSW Public Works’ response to State emergencies by ensuring that our engineering resources are available to assist in the securing of people and property during events like the Thredbo Landslide, the Newcastle earthquake, the North Coast Floods and the storms in western Sydney.

SS&BP manages Asset.gov, a leading edge software platform that uses the Internet to create secure, collaborative environments that support the management of projects and information. This facility can provide government and agencies with up to date information to monitor and manage government assets and capital programs.

SS&BP also works with clients in the planning of strategically significant and complex projects. We assist with the definition of these projects through advice on planning approvals, procurement options, business cases and funding.
