Fire safety compliance
NSW Public Works helps NSW Government agencies and local councils meet their statutory fire safety obligations with clarity and confidence.
Backed by a statewide footprint and extensive experience across complex government infrastructure, our dedicated Fire Compliance team provides a structured, end‑to‑end approach to managing fire safety compliance.
Regulatory changes for NSW building owners
Recent regulatory changes have increased accountability for building owners, including mandatory compliance with Australian Standard AS 1851‑2012 under the Environmental Planning and Assessment (Development Certification and Fire Safety) Regulation 2021, effective from 13 February 2026. NSW Public Works partners with government organisations to navigate these requirements and reduce compliance risk.
Ultimately, responsibility for fire safety rests with the building owner.
Our role is to provide practical support, independent assurance and coordinated delivery to help government organisations meet these obligations.
