Our critical role in landmark environmental initiative

NSW Public Works have helped deliver the Nimmie-Caira project that will restore 85,000 hectares of environmentally and culturally significant land in the Murrumbidgee floodplain located in southern NSW (between Hay and Balranold).

Supporting the Department of Primary Industry's (DPI) Water division, in partnership with the Federal Government, the PWA team, with the help of Property NSW Development and Transactions team, completed an Expression of Interest / Request for Tender process for the leasehold rights to manage the land, an area degraded due to intensive agriculture.

At a ceremony last year, the Minister for Industry and Water, the Hon. Niall Blair, announced that global environmental charity, Nature Conservancy, had been selected as the successful proponent. Nature Conservancy has partnered with the Nari Nari Tribal Council to manage the land back to health.

Leon Walker, Jonathan Betts and Alex Nedeljkovic from Development and Transactions, led the negotiation of key transaction documents with the proponent and played key roles in the evaluation process, and Tony Mccabe in PWA, who assisted DPI Water to manage the project's complicated and lengthy program.
