Program and project assurance

Background

The $3 billion Infrastructure and Jobs Acceleration Fund was released to create jobs, drive economic growth and support communities affected by COVID-19.

NSW Public Works (NSWPW) played a key role by providing assurance services for the $169 million Regional Stimulus Package, a diverse program including projects such as saleyards, community buildings, sporting fields, roadworks, and a platypus conservation centre.

Our role

DPIRD and Regional Development collaborated with NSWPW, leveraging our expertise in project management assurance at both project and program levels.

We supported the project lifecycle from planning and initiation to facilitating meetings, site visits and reporting. We also assisted in identifying and mitigating risks, and offered advice on planning, environmental pathways, procurement, WHS, contract management and grant funding requirements.

NSWPW also established a comprehensive framework for reporting and communication within the program. We identified risks, opportunities, and trends at the program level, and monitored KPIs against targets, contributing to improving future program guidelines, application processes and assessment forms.

Outcomes

Data and reporting

Our assurance managers gathered and reported detailed data, providing valuable insights into project performance, lessons learned and opportunities for continuous improvement in future project delivery and grant funding.

Stakeholder satisfaction

The successful delivery of the program and meeting project objectives led to high levels of stakeholder satisfaction, from clients to councils, contractors and the community.

Risk management

Assurance managers helped to identify, mitigate, and manage risks effectively throughout the delivery process, reducing delays, cost overruns and other project disruptions.

Economic stimulus

The infrastructure projects delivered through the program provided a significant economic boost, creating jobs during construction and attracting further potential investment and development to regional NSW.

Improved infrastructure

The completion of a range of infrastructure projects across sectors such as transportation, utilities, and public facilities has improved the overall infrastructure in regional NSW.
