Multiple regions Rural Hospital Staff Accommodation Program
NSW Public Works used agile and flexible procurement, together with local contractors and offsite manufacturers, to quickly deliver quality housing for health workers as part of the NSW Government’s Regional Housing Package.
In the Hunter New England region, NSWPW delivered 44 accommodation units across 12 health sites within 18 months (from design to install) and in the Riverina Western region, NSWPW will deliver 20 units across eight sites, focusing on cost-effective construction to maximise the available budget.
Background
The Rural Hospital Staff Accommodation (RHSA) Program is a $30 million, two-year program to deliver quality accommodation for medical professionals at regional hospital sites across New South Wales.
In collaboration with various local health districts, NSW Public Works (NSWPW) is assisting to deliver high quality dwellings across 12 regional hospital sites in the Hunter New England Region and six sites in the Riverina Western Region.
The program, which aims to attract and retain visiting medical professionals, is being funded by the Department of Regional New South Wales (DRNSW) through the Regional Housing Package, a program to boost construction and provide much needed housing in regional areas.
Our role
NSWPW are collaborating with Hunter New England Local Health District and Western NSW Local Health District to develop, manage and deliver the RHSA program.
NSWPW are providing program management and contract management services. To date, a key factor in the program’s success has been the collaborative project environment.
With the design, delivery and installation of the accommodation requiring excellent collaboration between stakeholders, NSWPW and NSW Health have worked exceptionally well in their partnership, as well as with suppliers and contractors.
