Warrumbungle National Park is heritage listed due to its geology and biodiversity and is a popular destination for bushwalking, camping and rock climbing.  The Wambelong fire in January 2013 caused significant damage to buildings and park infrastructure including the Warrumbungle National Park Visitor Centre.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service embarked on a redevelopment of the visitor centre in 2015, engaging NSW Public Works to provide project management services.  These included design concept planning, detailed design and documentation, procurement and construction management and administration through to completion and handover to the client.  Constructed on the same site, the unique design provides the National Park with a centre which capitalises on the setting and landscape position.

The new building uses an energy efficient design, sustainable materials and incorporates solar power generation and water capture. The facility is low maintenance and fire resistant, and includes a visitor services area, retail space, gallery space, multi-purpose area, storage, office, and staff/visitor amenities.
